My First 100 km
Conquering my first century ride is a moment that I will cherish for a lifetime. It was a bikepacking adventure from Osijek to Zagreb in 2016, and I still remember the feeling of excitement and disbelief when I realized I had cycled 100km in a single day. Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were moments of fatigue, doubt, and even a little bit of fear as I pushed through some of the more challenging hills and terrain. But I learned to pace myself, take breaks when needed, and stay positive and focused on my goal.
What made the experience even more special was the beautiful scenery. Me and my friend cycled through picturesque countryside and charming villages, and the shared experience of tackling the century ride brought us all closer together. As I crossed the finish line in Zagreb, the sense of accomplishment and pride was overwhelming. I had conquered my first century ride, and it was an experience that I would carry with me for the rest of my life.

4. Bike tools

Pack a repair kit with spare tubes, a pump, and basic tools so that you can fix any issues and get back on the road quickly. I carry multi-tool from Park Tool or you can get cheaper ones from Amazon if you are on the budget.
5. Clothing
When it comes to clothing for a 100km ride, the key is to focus on comfort and function. A good pair of cycling shorts with a chamois pad is a must, as it helps to reduce friction and chafing while providing cushioning for your sit bones. A moisture-wicking jersey will help keep you dry and comfortable, and a lightweight windbreaker or rain jacket can be packed in case of unexpected weather changes. Additionally, don’t forget to wear a well-fitting helmet to protect your head and sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun and wind. Gloves can also help with grip and reduce hand fatigue. I use on most of my rides Mountain Hardware Jersey, helmet from Giro and DND gloves from Giro.

Staying hydrated and fueled throughout the ride is crucial, so make sure to carry enough water and snacks with you. A hydration pack or water bottles mounted on your bike are convenient options. Energy bars, gels, and bananas are popular choices for snacks that can provide you with the energy you need to keep going.
